De Blasio Names Jiha N.Y. City Finance Commissioner

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio on April 8 named Jacques Jiha finance commissioner.

Most recently, Jiha was executive vice president and chief operating officer and chief financial officer for Earl G. Graves Ltd., a multimedia company and the publisher of Black Enterprise magazine.

Jiha spent the better part of a decade in the New York City comptroller's office and also worked for the New York State comptroller's office.

"Mayor de Blasio was right on the mark when he appointed Jacques Jiha," state Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli said in a statement. "Jacques has an impressive financial background, a deep understanding of the complexities of public finances and debt, and expertise in budget management."

Jiha also worked for the Nassau County comptroller's office, was the executive director of the New York State Legislative Tax Study Commission, and served as the principal economist to the state Assembly's Ways and Means Committee.

He emigrated to Brooklyn's East Flatbush neighborhood from Haiti in 1979 to attend Fordham University, where he earned his bachelor's degree in economics, and later earned his master's and doctorate in economics from the New School for Social Research.

De Blasio also named Feniosky Peña-Mora commissioner of the Department of Design and Construction, Lisette Camilo director of the Mayor's Office of Contract Services, and reappointed David Ehrenberg reappointed as the president and chief executive of the Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corp.
