LIPA Customer Appreciation at Nadir

A survey of Long Island Power Authority customers finds the utility has the lowest customer appreciation in the survey's history.

New York Gov. Cuomo is considering various options for changing LIPA, which has $6.9 billion in outstanding notes and bonds.

LIPA earned 43 points out of a possible 100 on the American Customer Satisfaction Index. This was the lowest score of the 230 brands across 43 industries that the index had examined over the last 19 years.

The average score on the index was 73. New York City and Westchester County electric and steam utility Consolidated Edison (Con Edison) received a 70 and New Jersey electric and gas utility PSEG received a 78.

On the index LIPA received a 65 in 2011 and a 58 in 2012.
