Jan Grimes was appointed as Orange County, Calif. Auditor-Controller last week.
Grimes has been the chief deputy auditor-controller and acting auditor-controller for nine months. Prior to that she served as director of central accounting operations for five years.
Predecessor David Sundstrom resigned in January 2012 to take a similar job in Sonoma County north of San Francisco.
"We commenced a search because Jan originally wasn't interested in the elected position," said Shawn Nelson, chairman of the county Board of Supervisors. "The benefits of being an elected are not as good as being a staff executive, but Jan made the decision we wouldn't have asked her to make." She will serve until the 2014 election for the position.
Grimes is a California Certified Public Accountant and Certified Government Financial Manager, She has a degree in accounting from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona.
Her official starting date was immediate. She will receive an annual salary of $173,097.
