Indianapolis Controller Leaving Post

Indianapolis Controller Jeff Spaulding is leaving the city for a new position at the Friedman Foundation for Education Choice.

His last day will be May 10. The city has yet to name a new controller. Mayor Greg Ballard said in a statement he hopes to name a replacement by the end of May.

“Jeff did yeoman work helping the city navigate two very challenging budgets,” Ballard said.  “His work to modernize and add more transparency to the budget process better positions the city to manage its finances through the economic downturn and impacts of property tax caps.”

Spaulding joined the city in November 2010. He had previously been at the Indiana Commission for Higher Education as well as senior fiscal analyst for the Indiana House of Representatives and Chief of the Policy and Budget Division at the Indiana Department of Revenue.

He will be the director of fiscal policy and analysis at the new foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting school choice and competition in K-12 education. “It was an honor to work for Mayor Ballard and witness the great strides being made in the city,” said Spalding.
