Sedgwick County, Kansas revenues will fall due to flat property valuations and a falloff in state aid, requiring additional budget cuts in fiscal 2014.
County Manager William Buchanan said last week that county departments will face a tight budget next year. The fiscal 2013 budget was reduced by $7.2 million as revenue dropped.
“We will be required to be creative, innovative and collaborative,” he said.
A 1.5% growth in property valuations was expected for the fiscal 2014 tax roll, but slower than expected growth will bring in $1.8 million less than anticipated.
County appraiser Michael Borchard said he expects agricultural, residential and commercial valuations in Wichita and the rest of Sedgwick County to remain flat through 2017.
Sedgwick County’s $84 million of outstanding GO bonds are rated triple-A by all three major rating agencies.
