Final December U. of Mich. Index at 82.5 vs. 75.1 in November

The University of Michigan's final December consumer sentiment index reading was 82.5, compared to the preliminary December 82.5, the final November 75.1, and the preliminary November 72.0, according to market sources.

The expectations index was 72.1, compared to 72.7 earlier in December, 66.8 in November, and 62.3 earlier in November.

The current conditions index was 98.6, compared to 97.9 earlier in December, 88.0 in November, and 87.2 earlier in November.

Economists polled by Thomson Reuters had predicted an 83.0 reading for the main index, 98.1 for current conditions and 75.0 for expectations.

The five-year inflation expectation index was 2.7%, compared to 2.9% in November, while the one-year inflation expectation index was 3.0%, compared to 2.9% in November.

The University of Michigan index is not released to the press, but only to paying subscribers.
