U. of Mich. Final Jan. Index at 73.8 vs. 72.9 in Dec.

The University of Michigan's final January consumer sentiment index reading was 73.8, compared to the preliminary January 71.3 reading, the final December 72.9, and the preliminary December 74.5, according to market sources.

The expectations index was 66.6, compared to 62.7 earlier in January, 63.8 in December, and 64.6 earlier in December.

The current conditions index was 85.0, compared to 84.8 earlier in January, 87.0 in December, and 89.9 earlier in December.

Economists polled by Thomson Reuters had predicted a 71.5 reading for the main index, 84.3 for current conditions and 63.0 for expectations.

The five-year inflation expectation index was 2.9%, compared to 2.9% in December, while the one-year inflation expectation index was 3.3%, compared to 3.2% in December.
