New Attorney for Bricker & Eckler's Cleveland Office

CHICAGO — Columbus, Ohio-based law firm Bricker & Eckler LLP has hired a new attorney for its public finance group.

Catherine Swartz will join the firm's Cleveland office as senior counsel.

Swartz previously worked as an associate at Benesh Friedlander Coplan & Aronoff. Before that, she worked for more than six years at Squire Sanders.

At Bricker & Eckler, Swartz will work with governments on issues related to tax levies, disclosure, special assessments, sales and use taxes, and other matters, the firm said Monday in a press release announcing the hire. She will also work with local school districts.

"She comes to the firm with a solid background in public sector law with a focus on school finance and tax issues," the firm said.

Bricker & Eckler has acted as bond counsel for several high-profile issuers in Ohio, including the state, the city of Columbus, and the Ohio State University.

The firm in May hired Christiane Schmenk, the former director of the Ohio Development Services Agency, to serve as of-counsel in its public finance group. Last year it hired Bill Mason for its Cleveland office and Rob McCarthy for its Columbus office.
