MAGNY Board Prepares for New Season

The Municipal Analysts Group of New York's new board members are preparing for a season of speaking events that will assess turbulent times in the municipal industry.

Christopher Mauro, head of municipal strategy research at RBC Capital Markets, has been appointed as Chairman in his fifth year on the board. MAGNY, a charter society within the National Federation of Municipal analysts, is an association of more than 450 security analysts in the greater New York City metropolitan area. The group hosts luncheons and events featuring leaders in the municipal finance industry.

"We try to have speakers on very timely topic," Mauro said in an interview. "There's certainly no shortage of things to talk about in our market."

The first meeting will take place on Sept. 13 and will feature Louis Schimmel, a past emergency manager of Pontiac, Michigan. Richard Larkin, director of credit analysis at HJ Sims & Co., Inc. will also speak at the event. Detroit's bankruptcy will be the topic to get the season off the ground, Mauro said.

Kristin Stephens, an executive director at UBS, will serve as MAGNY's treasurer, while Sandra Brinkert, director of municipal products group at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, will act as secretary. Amy Laskey, managing director at Fitch Ratings, will serve as membership chair for the coming season. Elizabeth Hill, deputy credit officer at Build America Mutual will be program chair.
