Cities Get Sales Tax Chunk

Texas cities will share $471.1 million of the more than $2 billion of state sales tax revenue that was collected in January.

Houston’s allocation of $58.4 million was up from $51.8 million last year. San Antonio received $27 million, and $24.4 million went to Dallas.

Ten transit districts received a total of $160.9 million in January, up from $146 million last year.

The Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County received $64 million and Dallas Area Rapid Transit received $46.1 million.

The 123 Texas counties with a sales tax shared $44 million from January collections. 

January’s total collections were the second time in three months that the Texas sales tax revenue had exceeded $2 billion.
