U. of Mich. Final Dec. Index at 72.9 vs. 82.7 in Nov.

The University of Michigan's final December consumer sentiment index reading was 72.9, compared to the preliminary December 74.5, the final November 82.7, and the preliminary November 84.9, according to market sources.

The expectations index was 63.8, compared to 64.6 earlier in December, 77.6 in November, 80.8 and earlier in November.

The current conditions index was 87.0, compared to 89.9 earlier in December, 90.7 in November, 91.3 earlier in November.

Economists polled by Thomson Reuters had predicted a 74.5 reading for the main index, 89.5 for current conditions and 64.0 for expectations.

The five-year inflation expectation index was 2.9%, compared to 2.8% in November, while the one-year inflation expectation index was 3.2%, compared to 3.1% in November.

The University of Michigan index is not released to the press, but only to paying subscribers.
