Bonds Proposed for Trail

Proponents of an elevated hiking trail in Scottsdale, Ariz. said last week they would seek to include $25 million for the first phase of the project in a proposed $250 million general obligation bond referendum in November 2013.

The $25 million would finance about a half mile of the 1.5-mile recreational trail proposal. Total cost of the project, including a 3,000-seat amphitheater, is estimated at $75.3 million.

The Scottsdale City Council is considering a bond package in 2013 for fire stations, parks, roads, and improvements to senior centers.

The overhead trail proposal was outlined last week to the Scottsdale Convention and Visitors Bureau by Doug Sydnor and Jason Rose.

Rose said the concept for the elevated trail is based on the High Line in New York City.

Putting the trail initiative on the November 2013 ballot will require proponents to obtain signatures of more than 21,000 registered voters, city officials said.
