San Antonio Approves Airport Car Rental Fee

The San Antonio City Council last week approved a $4.50 per day airport rental car fee, creating a revenue stream for a $127 million rental car facility at the airport.

The facility is expected to be funded by airport revenue bonds.

The fee goes into effect April 1 and will apply only to customers who rent vehicles at the airport, officials said.

The San Antonio fee will be comparable to those charged at other airports in Texas, although lower than the $5.95 charged in Austin 70 miles to the north.

With nine rental car companies scattered around the airport, passengers have frequently complained about the lack of centralized operations.

The proposed facility would be directly across from Terminal B, eliminating the need for shuttles to the rental car pickup locations.
