March Building Permits Revised to 585K Unit Rate

The number of U.S. building permits issued in March was revised down to an increase of 9.6% to a 585,000-unit annual rate, the Commerce Department’s Census Bureau said Tuesday.

Permits issued were originally reported up 11.2% to a 594,000 unit rate.

The Census Bureau revises the latest building permits data on the 18th working day of the month, three to seven days after the release of the preliminary estimate in the month that housing starts and building permits report.

Permits for single-family homes were revised lower to a gain of 3.7% at a 397,000 unit rate, previously up 5.7% at a 405,000 unit rate. Permits for multi-unit buildings were revised down to a gain of 24.5% at a 188,000 unit rate, previously up 25.2% at a 189,000 unit rate.
