H-Burg Mayor's New Woes

Metro Bank filed a nearly $52,000 mortgage foreclosure action against Harrisburg Mayor Linda Thompson in Dauphin County Court, the Harrisburg Patriot-News reported.

According to the newspaper, the complaint targets a property Thompson owns that is the former headquarters of Loveship Inc., a nonprofit agency Thompson founded and ran before her election as mayor in 2009. Loveship counseled residents on their mortgages.

“It’s a personal question and I’m not afraid to answer,” Thompson said in an open forum at a Harrisburg bookstore on Thursday, as quoted by WHTM-TV. “I’m human and I make mistakes, too. My property taxes, I’m on a payment plan. I’m not apologetic about that.”

Dauphin County records also indicate that Thompson also is delinquent on $1,085 of 2010 school district property taxes.

The mayor opposed the recent Chapter 9 bankruptcy filing by the Harrisburg City Council, which a federal judge invalidated on Nov. 23.
