Low-Key Inauguration

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal will be sworn in for a second four-year term Jan. 9 at an inauguration he said would be smaller than the first one.

Jindal said he would tone it down in part to avoid taking the limelight away from the national collegiate football championship game in New Orleans. The Bowl Championship Series finale is scheduled for the same night in New Orleans, with Louisiana State University a likely contestant.

"Second-term inaugurations do tend to be smaller, and we also happen to be sharing the day with the BCS championship football game," Jindal said.

Louisiana's constitution requires that the governor and other statewide officers be sworn in on the second Monday in January following their election. Jindal was re-elected in the October primary with 66% of the vote.

Unlike Jindal's first inauguration, the official ceremony will be held at the Old State Capitol rather than the current capitol.

The last governor to be sworn in at the historic capitol, which was completed in 1852 and replaced in the 1930s, was Mike Foster in 1996.
