The University of Michigan’s final May consumer sentiment index reading was 74.3, up from the preliminary May 72.4 reading, the final April reading of 69.8, and the final March 67.5 reading, according to market sources.
Economists polled by Thomson Reuters had predicted a 72.4 reading for the index.
The expectations index was 69.5, up from 67.4 earlier in May, 61.6 in April, and 57.9 in March.
The current conditions index was 81.9, up from 80.2 earlier in May, 82.5 in April, 82.7 earlier in April, and 82.5 in March.
