Governor-Elect Reappoints Budget Chief

Nevada’s new governor will retain an experienced budget hand as he prepares to face the state’s gaping budget deficit.

Governor-elect Brian Sandoval last week reappointed Andrew Clinger to serve as director of the Department of Administration and as budget director.

Clinger has held those positions since 2005 under Gov. Jim Gibbons, who lost to Sandoval in the Republican primary.

“Andrew’s integral knowledge of the state budget will be invaluable as we look to balance the budget without raising taxes,” Sandoval said in a statement. “I am pleased that Andrew has agreed to serve in my administration.”

Clinger has said that the state faces a structural deficit of $3 billion in its next budget cycle, on about $5 billion in revenue.

Sandoval also appointed a chief of staff, Heidi Gansert, an Assembly member who did not run for re-election this year. Gansert led the minority GOP caucus in the Assembly.
