Magazine Honors Perdue

Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue was among eight state and local government officials around the country named Governing’s 2010 Public Officials of the Year.

The annual awards program by the magazine recognizes leaders from state, city, and county government for accomplishments in their positions. This year’s awards recognize officials who have faced economic and political challenges, according to publisher Fred Kuhn.

Perdue “used his business-savvy leadership skills to turn Georgia into one of the best-managed states in the country and confronted two of the most difficult challenges facing Georgia — shepherding landmark transportation funding and water conservation bills through the legislature while keeping the state’s fiscal house in order,” Kuhn said.

Georgia is rated triple-A by all three rating agencies.

The Republican Perdue was the only governor to be recognized by the magazine this year. He will be term-limited out of office in January.
