Nevada Gov. Jim Gibbons announced the appointment Monday of Steve Robinson as transition director for the governor’s office.
He will focus on ensuring a smooth transition between the Gibbons administration and that of the new governor to be elected in November.
Gibbons will be leaving office following his landslide defeat in June’s Republican primary, in which he received less than 28% of the vote.
It hasn’t been a great year for the former congressman. His divorce was finalized after a two-year-long proceeding, and he broke his pelvis after being thrown from a horse in September.
Gibbons remains hospitalized in Reno, where he has participated in state meetings from his hospital room.
The man who beat him in the Republican primary, Brian Sandoval, is favored to win November’s general election against Rory Reid, the son of embattled U.S. Sen. Harry Reid.
Robinson served as a senior staff member in two previous gubernatorial transitions.
“I promised the people of Nevada a seamless and smooth transition between my administration and the next one,” Gibbons said in a statement. “This is a crucial time in Nevada’s history and our citizens deserve the full uninterrupted support of their state government.”
