Atlanta Gets New Attorney

Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed appointed Cathy Hampton as the new city attorney on Friday.

Hampton is the former chief legal officer, general counsel, and secretary at RARE Hospitality International Inc.

Her areas of expertise include the management of litigation, employment, real estate, licensing, team development, outside counsel, cost-containment measures, and budgeting.

She also specializes in general corporate law, including Sarbanes-Oxley and Securities and Exchange Commission compliance.

“Cathy Hampton brings an impressive breadth and depth of legal experience to the city of Atlanta,” Reed said in a statement. “Her knowledge of government compliance issues, corporate law, negotiation, and contract administration will be an invaluable asset.”

Before joining RARE Hospitality, Hampton was vice president and assistant general counsel at Earthlink Inc. She also was legal counsel at Turner Entertainment Group and the National Basketball Association. She received a bachelor’s degree from Spelman College, studied at Oxford University, and received her law degree from Harvard University.
