Manchin Wins Senate Primary

West Virginia Gov. Joe Manchin, a Democrat, easily won the party nomination for a U.S. Senate seat Saturday with more than 73% of the votes cast in the primary.

Manchin, 63, will face Republican businessman John Raese in a special election Nov. 2. Each hopes to fill the remaining two years of Sen. Robert C. Byrd’s term. Byrd died June 28 after more than half a century in the Senate.

Manchin became governor in 2005 and has two years remaining on his term.
