New Man for College Savings Plan

Nevada Gov. Jim Gibbons Monday announced the appointment former Treasurer Robert Seale to the board that oversees the state’s college savings plans program.

The program offers 529 college savings plans and the state’s prepaid tuition program. They are administered by the office of the state treasurer, Kate Marshall.

Seale, a Republican, served two terms as treasurer between 1991 and 1999. During that time, he was president of the National Association of State Treasurers.

He also served in the Legislature after leaving the treasurer’s office.

Seale is currently chairman of the Board of Government Investment Foundation Inc., a public charitable foundation that provides educational scholarships to state and local financial officers.

“Having been involved with the college savings plan as treasurer, it’s a privilege to be on the board as a member, to continue this important work,” Seale said in a statement.

Gibbons also appointed Edward Martin to the board. Martin is a business executive with experience in casino hotel operations, business, and real estate development. The two will serve four-year terms.
