Two JeffCo Verdicts Upheld

The 11th Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta last week upheld the convictions of former Jefferson County Commissioner Chris McNair and Jack Swann, who oversaw the department in charge of rebuilding the county’s financially troubled sewer system.

The case against the two men was about taking bribes from contractors in return for renovations on their properties.

McNair was convicted of bribery and conspiracy. He was sentenced to five years in prison and ordered to pay $851,927 in restitution. Swann was convicted of bribery, sentenced to eight years, and fined $250,000.

In addition to upholding the convictions of McNair and Swann, the appeals court also upheld the convictions of four contractors. The court also ordered a lower court to explain how Swann’s fine was calculated.
