RH Investment Taps Talent From Southwest Securities

SAN FRANCISCO — RH Investment Corp. has hired Kelly Wine as a secondary market trader and senior underwriter, the Encino, Calif.-based broker-dealer firm announced last week.

Her duties will include trading block high-grade California and other Western state paper, as well as cultivating underwriting opportunities for the firm.

Wine comes to RH Investment from Southwest Securities, where she served as vice president and West Coast underwriter.

She is following RH’s president and chief executive, Andrew “Bud” Byrnes, who recently returned to his family’s firm after two years with Southwest Securities in Encino.

Before joining Southwest, Wine spent 20 years on the trading desk at the former Prudential Securities in downtown Los Angeles. Prudential became Wachovia Securities during her latter years at the firm.

At Prudential/Wachovia, she specialized in secondary institutional trading and later in competitive underwriting for the West Coast.

Wine, a life-long Southern California resident, spent three years as a newspaper reporter before embarking on her 27-year career in the securities industry. She has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Cal State Northridge.

RH Investment, founded in 1983, specializes in California and Western municipal bonds, working for small institutions, high-net-worth individuals, and dealers without their own trading desks.

When he returned to the firm earlier this year, Byrnes said that the fundamental shifts in the municipal bond market, including the diminishment of the bond insurers, played to the strengths of RH Investment, including research ability and institutional knowledge.
