Import Prices Rise 1.4%; Export Prices Gain 0.8%

U.S. import prices jumped 1.4% in January, as both fuel and non-fuel prices rose, the Labor Department reported yesterday.

Economists expected January import prices to rise 0.8%, according to the median estimate from Thomson Reuters. Import prices increased 11.5% from January 2009. The January jump came as December import prices rose a revised 0.2%, after previously being reported as flat.
