Ipreo, Morningstar Join Forces on Fund Data, Bigdough

Ipreo and Morningstar Inc. are partnering to supply Morningstar's fund ownership data to users of Ipreo's Bigdough contact database, the companies said earlier this week.

The Bigdough database provides contact data and investor profiles, including 80,000 contacts from 25,000 institutions in 100 countries.

Users of the database will be able to see this information combined with ownership information for numerous Morningstar investment databases, including mutual funds, variable annuities, closed-end funds, exchange-traded funds, separate accounts, and collective investment trusts.

The combined dataset will be available on Ipreo's "BD Advanced," "BD Vision," and "BD Corporate" applications.

"Morningstar's unique information is an ideal complement to our institutional content," said Bill Sherman, executive vice president and managing director of global data strategy and analytics at Ipreo. Liz Kirscher, president of data services at Morningstar, said the combined data "will provide an unrivaled view into institutional investor ownership and investment activity."

Fixed income in particular will benefit from this arrangement, according to the companies.

Detailed information about fixed-income investors "has generally been incomplete and challenging to assemble," the companies said in a statement.

The combined data will provide "a more complete and in-depth view of debt holdings as well as investment information and fund ownership."
