New York State budget director Laura Anglin will step down, the governor’s office announced Wednesday. She will continue in her position for an undetermined amount of time before starting a new job as president of the Commission on Independent Colleges and Universities on July 16.
A replacement has not been named. “We’ll be working on a transition plan,” Division of Budget spokesman Jeffrey Gordon said.
Anglin, 43, will continue to work on putting together an enacted budget report for fiscal 2010, he said.
“Laura Anglin is a consummate professional and true public servant who has been an invaluable adviser to me and my administration during a time of extraordinary fiscal upheaval,” Gov. David Paterson said in a press release. “Her sage advice and fiscal acumen have helped guide the state through uncharted waters. I am grateful for her important work and wish her the best in her future endeavors.”
The colleges commission represents the public policy interests of more than 100 private, nonprofit institutions of higher education in the state, according to its Web site.
Former Gov. Eliot Spitzer appointed Anglin as budget director in December 2007 to take over from Paul Francis, who became director of state operations.
Anglin joined the governor’s office after 20 years of previous public service, including working as deputy comptroller of the division of retirement services in the state comptroller’s office and as director of budget studies for the Assembly Ways and Means Committee from 1996 to 2003.
