Keating, Muething & Klekamp PLL earlier this week announced that former Cincinnati councilman John Cranley will join the firm to practice bond and municipal finance.
Cranley, re-elected four times since being appointed in December 2000, stepped down from the City Council earlier this week. He was serving in his eighth year as councilman, the maximum allowable term.
"I enjoy helping businesses make things happen," Cranley said in a statement. "The use of government-revenue bonds is a key element to making business ventures work."
As a councilman, Cranley served as chair of the finance committee and also helped create tax increment finance districts in the city. Since 2007, he has been a partner in City Lights Development LLC.
Cranley has both a law degree from Harvard University and a master's degree in theological studies from the Harvard Divinity School. He earned his bachelor's degree at John Carroll University in Ohio.
Cranley has also served as an adjunct professor at the University of Cincinnati College of Law. He founded and co-directed the school's Ohio Innocence Project, which helped exonerate three innocent men through the use of DNA technology.
"John Cranley's experience in municipal government, and especially his tenure as chairman of the finance committee with City Council, is impressive," KMK partner Richard D. Spoor said in a statement.
