Delray Beach has scheduled a special meeting on Monday to hear a presentation from an attorney concerning the city’s bonding procedures.
City commissioners hired Usher Brown, of Brown, Garganese, Weiss & D’Agresta PA in Orlando, after Delray was mentioned in federal documents supporting charges that were brought against former Palm Beach County commissioner Mary McCarty and her underwriter husband Kevin McCarty.
Mary McCarty allegedly used her influence to steer municipal bond business to the firms for which her husband worked. He is scheduled to be sentenced March 27 for failing to report his wife’s crime. She is slated to plead guilty to fraud the same day.
The couple lived in Delray Beach, a city within Palm Beach County.
After the bond scandal broke earlier this year, Delray commissioners said they wanted a review of their own procedures and past debt issuances.
Brown’s written report is expected to be available today or tomorrow so commissioners can review it in advance of their special meeting on Monday, according to city commissioner Fred Fetzer.
“Based on [Brown’s] report, we’ll decide if there’s any further action we need to take,” Fetzer said.
