Teacher Investments Spike

The Arkansas Teacher Retirement System reported an 11.3% increase in its investments in the third quarter of 2009, as investments rose $856 million during the period to $9.66 billion.

The system’s investments fell $2 billion to $8.8 billion in fiscal 2009, which ended June 30. Bond investments earned 8.3% for a total quarter-ending value of $2.5 billion.

Domestic stock-market investments were up 18.1% and international stock market investments rose 16.7% in value to $3.2 billion.

The teachers program is the state’s largest retirement system, with more than 70,000 working members and 26,800 retired members.
