Culver Taps Efficiency Firm

Facing a looming deficit in 2011, Iowa Gov. Chet Culver is looking to a consultant that specializes in government efficiency to identify potential savings.

The state will pay Public Works of Philadelphia $300,000 for its work to look for ways it can eke out budget savings, according to published reports. The administration is already working on a round of budget cuts.

The state's auditor has warned that Iowa faces an up to $1 billion deficit in the next budget, although Culver's administration believes it's smaller.
