The University of Michigan’s preliminary June consumer sentiment index reading was 69.0 compared to May’s 68.7, April’s 65.1 and March’s 57.3, according to market sources. Economists polled by Thomson Reuters had predicted a 69.5 reading.
The expectations index was 65.4 compared to 69.4 in May, 63.1 in April and 53.5 in March. The current conditions index was 74.5 compared to 67.7 in May, 68.3 in April and 63.3 in March.
Economists polled by Thomson Reuters had predicted a 68.5 reading for the current conditions index and 71.5 for the expectations index.
The five-year inflation expectation index was 3.1% in June compared to 2.9% in May and 2.8% in April, and the one-year inflation expectation index was 3.1% in June compared to 2.8% in May and 2.8% in April.
The University of Michigan index is not released to the press, but only to paying subscribers.
