Parking Wars: The Show

The day-to-day, street-level work of a municipal authority has now been turned into grist for the mill of reality television.

The cable station A&E last Tuesday debuted its new reality show, “Parking Wars,” which follows Philadelphia Parking Authority employees as they hand out parking tickets and tow illegally parked cars.

The show attempts to reveal the softer side of employees who are verbally abused on the streets each day in what many describe as a thankless job.

“Parking Wars is an exclusive look at the people behind the stereotypes,” A&E’s Web site said. “From ticketers to tow truck drivers, the PPA crews are fearless and funny as they get the job done.”

The PPA’s last issue was $155.7 million of revenue bonds sold in June 1999, according to Thomson Financial.
