The University of Michigan’s final January consumer sentiment index reading was 78.4, compared to the preliminary January 80.5, the final December reading of 75.5, and the 74.5 reading earlier in December, according to market sources.
Economists polled by IFR Markets had predicted a 79.0 reading for the index.
The expectations index was 68.1, compared to 69.1 earlier in the month, 65.6 in December and 63.2 at mid-December.
The current conditions index was 94.4, compared to 98.1 at mid-month, 91.0 in December, and 92.1 in mid-December.
