Dome Site Study

Heery International Inc., an Atlanta-based engineering and construction management firm, was selected last week to recommend an appropriate location for the long-sought-after domed stadium in Birmingham.

Officials with the Birmingham Jefferson Civic Complex have long planned to build the $500 million project next to the city’s convention center, but Mayor Larry Langford had suggested a site near the city’s race track.

The study of sites by Heery is expected to be done in early September. The domed stadium is expected to be financed with bonds with funding from a variety of sources.
