New House Speaker Jim Tucker plans to increase the size of the House Appropriations Committee from the current 19 to 25 members, or nearly a quarter of the 105-member House, and create four subcommittees that would focus on specific areas in the budget.
The subcommittees would consider spending proposals for transportation, public works, health and education, and general government expenses. The subcommittees would provide recommendations to the full committee.
Louisiana’s fiscal 2009 budget is expected to be approximately $32 billion.
