State Revenues Edge Up

Gov. Sonny Perdue announced this week that net revenue collections for December totaled about $1.6 billion, a slight increase of $470,000 over December 2006 revenues.

More significantly, Department of Revenue officials report that at the close of the second quarter of fiscal 2008, net tax collections reached $8.6 billion, an increase of $348 million, or 4.2%, over the same year-to-date period last year. Individual income, sales and use, and corporate taxes led the increase.

Individual income taxes are up $247 million, or 5.9%, andtotal $4.4 billion so far this fiscal year. Net sales and use taxes are up $48 million to $2.8 billion, an increase of 1.8%, and corporate tax collections rose to $440 million.

Perdue in his state of the state address this week said that triple-A rated Georgia had to be careful in its spending. The state’s legislative session began this week.
