Muni Minute: The Public Pension Mess

In the latest installment of Muni Minute – The Bond Buyer's 60-second video series that examines a top municipal market story in the coming week – we take a look at the riveting topic of public pensions up for discussion at two Northeast conferences.

VOICE OVER: The riveting topic of public pensions will be up for discussion at two Northeast conferences this week. Brookings Institution's muni finance event will start at 8:30 AM Tuesday at its Washington D.C. headquarters. The event is a partnership among Brookings, Brandeis International Business School and Washington University in St. Louis. Alicia Munnell and Jean-Pierre Aubry from the Center of Retirement Research at Boston College will view the landscape for pensions and other post-employment benefits, including the role of new GASB guidelines. Joining them will be Missouri Treasurer Clint Zweifel and Brookings senior fellow Louise Sheiner.

On Wednesday, the Philadelphia area Municipal Analyst Society will host a public pension day at law firm Ballard Spahr in downtown Philadelphia beginning at 10:00 AM. Scheduled speakers include Les Richmond from Build America Mutual, Dan Mead from GASM and Pennsylvania State Representative John McGinnis

The Bond Buyer plans extensive coverage of both events. I'm Paul Burton and this is the Muni Minute.
