The federal government ran a $156.7 billion budget surplus in April, the Treasury Department reported Tuesday.
The April surplus followed an unrevised $52.9 billion budget deficit in March. The April surplus was larger than the median $146.5 billion surplus predicted by economists polled by Thomson Reuters.
Outlays in April totaled $315.1 billion, compared to $287.1 billion in March. Receipts totaled $471.801illion in April, compared to $234.2 billion for the previous month.
In April 2014, the government ran a $106.9 billion surplus.
