U.S. Government Ran $149.2 Billion Deficit in July

The federal government ran a $149.2 billion budget deficit in July, the Treasury Department reported Wednesday.

The July deficit followed a $50.5 billion budget surplus in June. The July deficit was larger than the median $131 billion deficit predicted by economists polled by Thomson Reuters.

Outlays in July totaled $374.680 billion, compared to $292.447 billion in June. Receipts totaled $225.493 billion in July, compared to $342.933 billion for the previous month.

In July 2014, the government ran a $94.620 billion deficit.

For the fiscal year to date, the government is running a $465.539 billion deficit compared to a $460.485 billion deficit at the same point last year.
