NEW YORK - The University of Michigan's final April consumer sentiment index reading was 73.3, compared to the final April 72.2 and March’s 73.6, according to market sources.
Economists polled by Thomson Reuters had predicted a 73.5 reading for the index.
The expectations index was 68.3, compared to 66.5 in April and 67.9 in March.
The current conditions index was 81.1, compared to 81.0 in April and 82.4 in March.
Economists polled by Thomson Reuters had predicted an 82.0 reading for the current conditions index and 66.8 for the expectations index.
The five-year inflation expectation index was 2.9%, compared to 2.7% in April, and 2.7% in March, while the one-year inflation expectation index was 3.1%, compared to 2.9% in April, and 2.7% in March.
The University of Michigan index is not released to the press, but only to paying subscribers.
