Treasury: U.S. Gov’t Ran $98.5B Deficit in October

NEW YORK - The federal government posted a $98.5 billion budget deficit in October, down from the $140.4 billion deficit last October, but up from September’s $64.6 billion shortage, the Treasury Department reported Thursday.

Outlays totaled $261.5 billion and receipts were $163.1 billion.

Economists expected a $107.5 billion deficit for the month, according to the median estimate from Thomson Reuters.
