NEW YORK - Industrial production increased 0.7% in October after a revised 0.1 decline in September from a previously reported 0.2% gain, while capacity use rose to 77.8% from a revised 77.3% in September, the Federal Reserve reported Wednesday.
The September capacity utilization rate was originally reported at 77.4%.
Economists polled by Thomson Reuters expected production to rise 0.4% and 77.6% capacity use.
Production at mines climbed 2.3% in October, while the output of utilities edged down 0.1%. Mines ran at 92.7% of capacity, up from 90.7% in September.
Production at utilities fell 0.1% in October, after a 2.0% decline in September. Utilities ran at 77.5% of capacity, down slightly from 77.7% in September.
