Preliminary Aug. U. of Mich. Index at 92.9 vs. 93.1 in July

The University of Michigan's preliminary August consumer sentiment index reading was 92.9, compared to the final July 93.1, the preliminary July 93.3, and the final June 96.1, according to market sources.

The expectations index was 83.8, compared to the final July 84.1, the preliminary July 85.2, and the final June 87.8.

The current conditions index was 107.1, compared to the final July 107.2, the preliminary July 106.0, and the final June 108.9.

Economists polled by Thomson Reuters had predicted a 93.8 reading for the main index, 107.0 for current conditions, and 84.0 for expectations.

The five-year inflation expectation index was 2.8%, compared to 2.8% in July, while the one-year inflation expectation index was 2.7%, compared to 2.8% in July.

The University of Michigan index is not released to the press, but only to paying subscribers.
