Penn Economist Gillen to Speak at Philly Analysts' Meeting

University of Pennsylvania economist Kevin Gillen will deliver the keynote address at the Sept. 26 luncheon meeting of the Philadelphia Area Municipal Analyst Society.

The meeting will begin at noon at the 20th-floor conference room of Janney Montgomery Scott headquarters, 1717 Arch St. in Center City Philadelphia.

Gillen, a senior research consultant with Penn's Fels Institute of Government, will discuss the Philadelphia and regional housing markets. He produces quarterly reports on housing prices throughout the Delaware and Lehigh river valleys.

His past clients have included the Philadelphia Housing Authority, Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission, Philadelphia Tax Reform Commission, New Jersey Council for Affordable Housing, Pennsylvania Housing Finance Authority, Pew Charitable Trusts and the U.S. Geological Survey.

Persons interested in attending should contact Janney director and municipal credit analyst Tom Kozlik at tkozlik@janney.com by Friday.

The society, called PhAMAS, began late last year and covers the Philadelphia region, southern New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland. Its ultimate goal is to become a constituent society of the National Federation of Municipal Analysts and have representatives on the NFMA board.

It has scheduled a social hour for 5:30 Sept. 11 at Chops Restaurant & Bar at the Comcast Center, also in Philadelphia. It is also planning another speaker event in mid to late November.
