October Trade Gap Slips To $43.5B From $44.2B

WASHINGTON — The U.S. international trade deficit was $43.5 billion in October, down from $44.2 billion in September, the Commerce Department reported Friday.

The deficit was in synch with the median $43.5 billion deficit for the month that was estimated by economists polled by Thomson Reuters and resulted from total exports of $179.2 billion and imports of $222.6 billion.

October exports were about $1.5 billion less than previous month’s level of $180.6 billion.

Imports were $2.2 billion less than the September level of $224.8 billion.
