Nov. New Home Sales Gain 4.3% to 490,000 Annual Rate

Sales of new single-family homes grew 4.3% to a 490,000 seasonally adjusted annual rate in November, according to data released by the Commerce Department Wednesday.

The increase came after a revised 6.3% gain to a 470,000 rate in October, originally reported as a 10.6% increase to 495,000.

Thomson Reuters' poll of economists had predicted a 505,000 sales level for November.

Sales of new homes were 9.1% better than the 449,000 rate in November 2014, Commerce said.

The supply of new homes at the current sales rate fell to 5.7 months from 5.8 months.

At the end of November, the number of new homes on the market grew to 232,000 from 227,000.

The unadjusted average price of a new single-family home climbed to $374,900 from $358,100.

Meanwhile, the unadjusted median price rose to $305,000 from $286,900 in the previous month.

Sales increased in two of the four regions of the country in the month.

Sales in the Northeast were off 28.6% to 25,000 from 35,000 and sales in the Midwest fell 8.6% to 53,000 from 58,000, and sales in the South rose 4.5% to 277,000 from 265,000. Sales in the West surged 20.5% to 135,000 from 112,000.
