NEVADA: Leaning Tower of Vegas

A $20 million addition to the Las Vegas City Hall funded in part by bonds was stopped because the design was off by seven inches.

Those few inches over a 50-yard span caused some office floors to slope, which can't be seen with the naked eye. Contractors are now trying to minimize the slight downhill decline so all workers can keep a level head -- and chair and desk.

It is the latest in a series of problems that has delayed the opening of the facility, originally slated for April. The finding of an underground fuel tank and belated deliveries of raw materials also added to delays. The opening has been pushed to September at an additional cost of $800,000.
