Nassau County Comptroller George Maragos was recently presented by the GFOA with the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting. The award was for the county's 2013 comprehensive annual financial report that was issued in 2014. The GFOA describes the honor as "the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting."

The audit Nassau was recognized for includes general-purpose financial statements and an independent report prepared by accounting firm Deloitte & Touche.

"The GFOA continues to recognize the excellent work the financial professionals in my office produce year after year," Comptroller Maragos said in a statement. "For the fourth consecutive year the county's financial statements have been judged by an impartial panel and found to have met the highest standards for accuracy and 'spirit of full disclosure."

Maragos was first elected as Nassau comptroller in 2009. The county is rated A2 by Moody's Investors Service, A by Fitch Ratings and A-plus by Standard & Poor's.
